Class, Wed, 2/08


Go to a passage—a ¶ or less—in Bird by Bird that you’d like to talk about. Tell us what you notice, and what you admire (or are irritated by). I am preempting the following passages:

  • p. 17: Short Assignments: “It reminds me that all I hve to do is write down as much as I can see through a one-inch picture frame . . . “
  • p. 21: Shitty First Drafts: ” All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts . . .”

To Do

  1. Fri, 2/10: No class!
  2. Mon, 2/13: Read the essays in Franzen by Cantú, Chee, Crenshaw, Díaz, and Dumitrescu. As you do, think of moments from your own life that you might write about in your X1.
  3. Tues, 2/14: Post X1 to your Google Drive folder. Please save your writing as a Microsoft Word document, and title it “Lastname X1”.
