How to Read This Schedule

This is a schedule of deadlines. We will talk about plenty of other things in class, but this shows the work you need to do on specific dates.

Writings: All Xs, Rs, and Es are due on Tuesdays at 10:00 am.In most cases, I will ask you to post these pieces to a shared folder on Google Drive.Workshop responses and comments are due on the date of the workshop.

Readings: I will assign several essays from Best American Essays 2016 each time Franzen appears on the schedule. We will also read Anne LaMott’s Bird by Bird during the first three weeks of the semester. I will assign some other brief readings, usually from the internet, when it comes time for us to discuss Profiles, Criticism, and Digital Writing. And I will ask each of you to select a piece of nonfiction for the class to read. (These Class Picks will count as X5.)

Student Work: I’ve marked several classes during which we will discuss your writing. In Workshops, I will ask you to share your writing with a small group of other students. In Conferences, I will cancel our regular class meeting so I can schedule time to speak with each of you individually about your writing. In Studios, I will give you time in class to work on pieces you are currently drafting.
